Faculty Position Available
in Cardiopulmonary Radiology Section at the VCU Medical Center,
Richmond, Virginia
The Department of Radiology at the Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, is seeking
a full-time Thoracic and or Cardiothoracic Radiologist to
join the Cardiopulmonary Imaging Section. Currently eight
faculty members comprise the Thoracic Imaging and Non-Invasive
Cardiovascular Imaging Section and are responsible for interpreting
in-patient and out-patient chest radiographs, all chest CT’s including HRCT, CT
Aortography, CT Pulmonary Angiography, and Cardiac CTA’s,
as well as Cardiac MRI and pre-ablation pulmonary vein MR studies.
Thoracic interventions performed by the section include lung
and mediastinal biopsies. The section interprets approximately
80,000 chest radiographs, more than 16,000 chest CT’s,
and 700 cardiac MRI/MRA studies, and performs approximately
130 thoracic interventions annually. All imaging is fully digitized
on a recently upgraded state-of-art McKesson PACS system. TeraRecon
and Vitrea multiplanar and 3-D workstations and hospital RIS
access are available at each radiologist’s personal 6
megapixel PACS station. PowerScribe, a flexible Web based speech
recognition system, was upgraded to the latest version in June
2009. The department has state-of-the-art imaging equipment
including 5 current MDCT scanners with 3 more scanners being
installed between this winter and spring 2011, all of which
will have dual source capabilities, and 3-1.5T MRI scanners.
Members of the Cardiopulmonary and Thoracic Imaging Section
work in close association with the Department of Critical Care
and Pulmonary Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Thoracic
Surgery, and Cardiology, as well as other subspecialty programs.
VCU Medical Center is one of the country’s largest and
most sophisticated medical university complexes. The center
is the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, houses the
largest number of intensive care units in the state, nearly
100 specialty clinics and patient care centers, has a large
tranplant service, and is one of only 12 centers in the country
performing artificial heart transplants, and is the lead institution
in a national clinical trial of this technology employing the
use of a portable driver. The campus is also home to the Massey
Cancer Center, Virginia’s first National Cancer Institute-designated
cancer center.
Located in central Virginia, Richmond is
a thriving Southern city located less than two hours from the
Blue Ridge Mountains, Washington, D.C., and the Altantic coast
and beaches. Richmond is also a vibrant center of commerce
and the arts. The city is home to a number of Fortune 500 companies
and a leader in manufacturing, distribution, finance and university
education. In addition, Richmond hosts a symphony, an opera

Applicants must be Board certified or
Board eligible in diagnostic radiology and be eligible to
practice medicine in Virginia. A fellowship in thoracic and/or
cardiac imaging or demonstrated competency in cardiothoracic
imaging is required. Academic rank and tenure will depend
